*Postal Code History
Postal codes were first used in London in 1857, when the city was divided into ten districts and each was given a one- or two-letter postal code. Liverpool became the first other city to use the system in 1864. After World War I, postal codes were expanded from England to other major European cities. Vietnam implemented the use of postal codes in 2004, in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Post and Telematics and based on global standards and World Postal Union directives.
