Once upon a time, in a lush forest near a gentle river, there lived a clever little monkey who spent his days swinging through the trees and enjoying the sweetness of ripe fruit. He was content and carefree, watching the world go by from the highest branches, especially from his favorite tree overlooking the river. One day, while perched on his usual branch, he noticed a crocodile swimming below. The crocodile, who had been observing the monkey for quite some time, finally approached and introduced himself with a friendly smile.

The next day, full of excitement and trust, the monkey climbed onto the crocodile’s back and the journey began. The water sparkled under the sun, and all seemed well until they reached the middle of the river. Suddenly, the crocodile dived slightly beneath the surface and turned his head toward the monkey. His voice changed. “Little monkey,” he said slyly, “I didn’t bring you here to visit my wife. I brought you here because I want to eat you.”
Startled but not panicked, the monkey stayed calm. He thought quickly and said, “Oh dear crocodile, if only you had told me sooner. I would have brought my heart with me. Unfortunately, I left it back on my tree. Without it, I would be tasteless and not worth your meal.” The crocodile, puzzled, asked, “You left your heart in the tree?” The monkey nodded. “Yes. I always keep it safe there. If you take me back, I can get it for you, and then you can enjoy your feast properly.”
The crocodile, convinced by the monkey’s lie and eager for his promised reward, turned around and swam back to the shore. As soon as they reached land, the monkey jumped off and raced up the tree. From a safe height, he looked down and shouted, “You foolish crocodile! Who keeps their heart outside their body?” He burst into laughter, while the crocodile, realizing he had been tricked, could only swim away in frustration.
This story teaches us that clever thinking can outwit even the most dangerous threat. The monkey’s sharp mind saved his life, reminding us that intelligence often triumphs over strength, and that staying calm in crisis can lead to the smartest solutions.
