Grandmother and Grandchild

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived two children, a brother and a sister. Their parents had passed away when they were young, so they went to live with their grandmother. She was very old and very poor, yet she gave them all the love she had. Life was hard, but the little family remained close, finding comfort in one another. The children stayed by their grandmother’s side, and her gentle smile made even the toughest days a little easier.
Grandmother and Grandchild
One day, a kind fairy passed by and, moved by their difficult life, gave them a peach. She told them, “When your grandmother passes away, plant this seed on her grave, and you will gain great fortune and happiness.” Life only grew harder after that. Their grandmother, unable to bear seeing her grandchildren go hungry, chose to eat less and less until she quietly passed away, hoping the fairy’s promise would come true for her beloved grandchildren.

As soon as the children buried their grandmother and planted the peach seed, something magical happened. The seed sprouted, the tree grew with incredible speed, and soon its branches were heavy with golden and silver peaches. The children picked as many as they could, yet the tree never seemed to run out of treasures. Their grief slowly eased, replaced by amazement and joy. Before long, they were wealthier than kings and queens.

But after the first burst of excitement faded, the children realized something was missing. All the gold and silver in the world could not replace the warmth of their grandmother’s love. Though they lived in a palace, their hearts felt empty. They longed for her smile, her voice, and the comfort of her arms. Nights were sleepless, and days felt heavy with sorrow.

The fairy returned and saw their sadness. The little sister cried and begged, “Please bring our grandmother back to life. We do not want riches, we only want her.” The fairy asked gently, “If she returns, you will be poor again, just as before. Can you accept that?” Without hesitation, both children shouted with joy, “Yes! We can endure any hardship as long as our grandmother is with us!”

The fairy waved her magical fan. Instantly, the palace, the treasures, and the peach tree vanished, drifting away like a rosy cloud into the sky. Their grandmother appeared once more, smiling kindly with open arms. The children ran to her, weeping with happiness. From that day forward, the three of them lived together again. Life was difficult, but it was filled with love, and that love made every hardship bearable.
