Every night, under the silver glow of the moon, Naiá pursued the celestial light with unwavering devotion. She would climb the highest hills, stretching her arms toward the sky, hoping to touch Jaci. She ran through dense forests, chasing the pale streak of moonlight across the treetops, yet the Moon always seemed just out of reach. Slowly, she grew thin and weary from longing, but her determination never faltered. One night, standing on the banks of the Amazon River, she gazed into the still, mirror-like water. There, she saw the Moon’s reflection, enormous and close enough to grasp. Believing Jaci had descended to bathe in the river, Naiá plunged into the deep waters, hoping at last to embrace the love she had sought so fiercely.
The river carried Naiá away, and she never returned. Witnessing her pure love and ultimate sacrifice, Jaci was deeply moved. He did not want her to become just another star, lost among millions in the night sky. Instead, he transformed her into the Star of the Waters, Estrela das Águas. Her story was preserved in the giant green leaves that opened wide like Naiá’s outstretched arms, the water lilies that bloomed only at night with petals shifting from pristine white, symbolizing her purity, to deep pink, symbolizing her burning passion, and the fragrant scent that wafts each evening, calling the moon to meet her glow.
Naiá’s tale embodies the beauty of pure love, showing unwavering loyalty and courage to follow one’s heart.
